Building What Is Greater Than Us

In this heartfelt sermon at St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, Rev. Fr. Nareg Terterian reflects on the Gospel of Mark and the story of the widow’s offering, a moment when Jesus observes a woman giving two small coins at the temple and declares that she has given more than anyone else.

Fr. Nareg explores the deeper meaning behind this act of generosity, reminding us that faith is not measured by the amount we give, but by the spirit and love with which we give it. He invites parishioners to consider what the Church means in their own lives — as a place where faith, community, identity, and belonging come together.

Through personal stories and spiritual insight, Fr. Nareg connects the widow’s humble offering to the value of giving time, effort, and heart to sustain the life of the Church. This sermon also coincides with the Feast of the Holy Translators, highlighting how the Armenian Church and its language have shaped the faith and identity of generations.

Fr. Nareg concludes by calling for renewed appreciation, active participation, and generosity — not just to maintain the Church, but to nurture the spiritual life it represents.
