St. Sarkis Name Day Celebration took place at St. Sarkis Church last Sunday, February 1st. In the Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Sarkis is celebrated on the Saturday before the start of Lent. St. Sarkis is a 4th-century Christian military leader and martyr. He is the patron saint of youth, love, and couples. And if your name is Sarkis, this day is like a spiritual birthday, and people may congratulate you with "Happy Name Day."
On the Feast of St. Sarkis, our faithful church community gathered for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, which was presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Prelate. Archbishop Anoushavan delivered a meaningful sermon offering spiritual guidance and reflection on the life, faith, and sacrifice of St. Sarkis, encouraging the faithful to remain steadfast in their Christian values. Following the Divine Liturgy, a requiem service was held during which His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan Tanielian offered prayers in remembrance of all those who faithfully served at St. Sarkis Church, honoring their dedication and lasting contributions to the parish community.
The celebration concluded with a reception held in the Main Hall where parishioners gathered in a warm atmosphere of fellowship and gratitude.
The program began with a prayer, followed by opening remarks by MC Veh Bezdikian, assisted by Eddy Hazarian. A welcome address was delivered by Simon Bardizbanian, Vice Chair of Board of Trustees, who expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the celebration.
The committee members graciously served lunch to the attendees, fostering fellowship and community spirit. During the reception, Archbishop Anoushavan praised Der Nareg Terterian for his tremendous work and unwavering dedication to the parish over the past 20 years, acknowledging the profound impact of his ministry.
The program continued with an exquisite artistic presentation highlighting the young talents of the community.The audience enjoyed the poems recited by Lia Taschyan-"Hayastan Aselis" and Ariana Aseyan - "Jan Hayrenik", vocal performances by Annmarie Hazarian - "Yerevan Erebuni" ,"Dzaghgadz Baleni", by Nicole Hagobian - "Yes Im Anosh Hayastani", by Garen Fiesel (song) and Hovsep Terterian (piano) the duet "As the World Caves In", Krikor Arabatlian - "Hayots Hovig", Anahid Inzagulyan - "Ave Maria".
In recognition of their service and commitment, members of the organizing committee and the facilitators of the Salt and Light Youth Ministry were honored. Special recognition was given to Nyrie Bedrossian, director of the Salt and Light Youth Ministry, who received a certificate acknowledging her outstanding leadership and dedication in guiding and inspiring the youth.
The Feast of St. Sarkis concluded as a memorable day of worship, fellowship and gratitude, strengthening the bonds of the community and faith within the parish.
