On Friday, January 23rd, the St. Sarkis Salt & Light Youth Group gathered for the first session of 2026. Over 80 youth ranging from the ages of 10 to 18 came together for an evening of spiritual reflection. This season, over the course of 4 sessions, Der Nareg and the Salt & Light facilitators will be following a lesson plan that is focused on the Renewal of Spiritual Life, in line with the annual message and direction from His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, to make 2026 the year of Spiritual Renewal. The discussions included topics such as "What is a Spiritual Life", the role of "Faith and the Church in a Spiritual Life", and "Challenges we face in current society". The youth were very engaged in these small group discussions and provided insights on their personal relationships and challenges when trying to lead a life of Faith. Facilitators gave a call to action with "Awake O Sleeper" , a lesson that called for a spiritual awakening with a reading from Ephesians 5, a reflection on following in Christs path and Christian teachings. After the small group breakouts, everyone gathered in the Sanctuary for a reflection on the lesson led by Der Nareg. The night ended with delicious ice cream sundae's downstairs in the Main Hall, where all the kids and facilitators gathered for some socializing.
On behalf of the Salt & Light Youth Ministry coordinating committee, we are delighted to have all our members attending these sessions and look forward to seeing everyone at our next session on Friday, February 13th.
