On Friday, October 3rd, the Salt & Light Youth Group St. Sarkis Church gathered for their 2nd session of the Fall Season. Over 90 youth and 15 facilitators eagerly came together to continue the lesson plan that was started at the 1st session, which focused on The Nicene Creed. After sharing their customary meal together in the Main Hall, the youth broke out into their facilitator led small groups.
During these small group sessions, facilitators guided the youth through a carefully laid out lesson plan which reviewed the prayer, both in Armenian and English, and then engaged the youth in questions and answers that would help them gain a deeper understanding of the  meaning and importance of the words. This lesson focused on understanding that Jesus is True God and True Man, reflecting on the Creed's phrase "God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God." The discussions were guided to help the youth recognize that Jesus was not just a prophet or a teacher but in fact fully and truly God, "of the substance of the Father" and that this matters deeply in order to place our trust in Him to achieve salvation. After spending an hour in their small breakout groups, all the youth and facilitators convened in the Sanctuary, where Der Nareg gave them a closing message about their learnings of the day,  Everyone then prayed the Nicene Creed, or Havadamk, together in Armenian to end the night. On behalf of Der Nareg and all of the facilitators, it is easy to say that being in the presence of almost 100 youth gathered to learn, engage in conversation about God, and pray together at our church is not only an extremely rewarding experience but also deeply humbling.
We look forward to our next Salt & Light event which is a One Family, One Faith Special Badarak held on Sunday, November 2nd. We hope to see all of our youth and their families in attendance that day, as there will be guided moments and reflections to help the attendees deepen their understanding and connection with our Badarak. Don't miss this unique opportunity to grow in your faith with your family and community by your side. The Badarak will be followed by a Fellowship Hour hosted by the Salt & Light Youth Group families.
