On Holy Tuesday, the Armenian Apostolic Church commemorates the Parable of the Ten Virgins/Maidens. In the parable, ten maidens took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were wise and five of them were foolish.
Those who were foolish took their lamps but did not take any oil to light them with while the wise maidens remembered to take oil for their lamps. The vesper service on Holy Tuesday re-enacts this parable with girls of all ages participating.
This year at St. Sarkis Church we had 17 lovely girls participate and we were extra fortunate to have Archbishop Anoushavan present to partake in the service as well.
A casual dinner was served afterwards to all those present. This evening marks one of the many wonderful traditions we have at our beloved church.
