Thanksgiving Message
Dear Friends, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! This holiday has always been one of my favorite celebrations. The outside world seems to go still for a few precious hours, enabling us to enjoy the warmth and joyfulness of gathering with our loved ones to linger over a delicious meal, while giving thanks for all of God’s blessings. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to express my deepest gratitude on this Thanksgiving Day for our blessed St. Sarkis Church, our beloved Pastor Der Nareg, and for each of you that are part of our community. As the world around us becomes more chaotic and uncertain, our Church grows more important and meaningful than ever before. For me, there is no greater gift I can give myself than to attend Church on Sundays to reconnect with God through participation in our Badarak in fellowship with our community. The busier my week, the more fervent the need to re-center and renew my spirit through our Sunday service and Der Nareg’s thought-provoking sermons that provide a dose of wisdom and perspective to help cope with the challenges encountered in our daily lives. And how fortunate we are to have one another – a loving community that comes together to pray, support and enrich each other with friendship and fellowship. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude and respect for our community of volunteers and educators, each of whom play a vital role in the success of our wonderful multi-generational programs that serve important spiritual and cultural community needs. It is because of your loving commitment and unique contributions that these programs flourish for the benefit of us all. With gratitude, Annita Nerses, Ph.D. Chair, Board of Trustees |

A Special Milestone for our Der Hayr!Reported by Dr. Annita Nerses On Sunday, November 24, St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church celebrated two significant events: Archbishop Anoushavan Tanielian's 40th anniversary of service in America and a surprise presentation honoring Der Nareg on the 20th anniversary of his ordination. During the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, Der Nareg was elevated to the rank of Archpriest by Archbishop Anoushavan.
During the service, the congregation received an encyclical from His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, elevating Der Nareg to the rank of Archpriest in recognition of his faithful service as a priest over the past twenty years. We are truly blessed and grateful for Der Nareg's guidance, faith, and dedication to St. Sarkis Church during these two decades. The community expresses immense gratitude to God for blessing our parish with such an exceptional pastor whose commitment to his flock is extraordinary. Most notably, Der Nareg and Yeretzgin Annie are tireless in their devotion to guiding and teaching our youth. Congratulations, Der Nareg! Emotional Health CheckReported by Dr. Annita Nerses On Tuesday evening, November 26, over 40 parishioners gathered in Pagoumian Hall to attend a timely Emotional Health Check seminar by Der Nareg. With the approaching holidays becoming a season of celebration and joy, it can also be a period of stress, loneliness, and sadness for many. The audience was riveted as Der Nareg emphasized recognizing and acknowledging our feelings to support our mental health. Through case studies and his own experiences, Der Nareg explained complex concepts with great clarity. He dove into dysfunctional behaviors that can emerge in times of stress due to suppressed feelings, and he provided us the tools to identify these behaviors in ourselves and others, which is an essential step toward the resolution and healing process. Most importantly, Der Nareg helped us understand that we are not alone in our journey and that there are steps all of us can take to understand our feelings and improve our mental health. Thank you, Der Nareg, for this much-needed discussion. You left us with important tools to help recognize and nurture our feelings as we each walk our journey to wellness. For more infomation visit:

Salt & Light Youth GroupReported by Mrs. Nyrie Bedrossian On Friday, November 22nd, over 75 members of the Salt & Light Youth group gathered at St. Sarkis Church for the third session of this season. The evening started with a delicious dinner, after which everyone went with their respective facilitators to their small breakout groups to review the topic and discussion of the day. The day's topic was focused on Thanksgiving, and the lesson was tied into the biblical story of the Miracle of the Healing of the Ten Lepers in the Gospel of Luke. The facilitators led the youth through a guided discussion on gratitude in daily life, opening our eyes to seeing beyond the surface, showing compassion to people in society who may be isolated or excluded, and understanding how faith can impact how we view challenges and blessings. The children were engaged during the discussions, and seeing their participation and contributions to this timely topic was beautiful. After breakouts, all members met in the Sanctuary with Der Nareg to reflect on the subject before heading down to the Main Hall for dessert and social time.
The Salt & Light Youth Group will hold its annual joint Christmas Party with AYF on Friday, December 13th, at St. Sarkis Church. We look forward to seeing our youth and their families at this fun and festive event.

Suzanne and Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School Capital Improvement ProjectArmenian Youth Foundation Supports Our School
Dear Parents, The Suzanne and Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School of St. Sarkis Church is excited to announce that we have been awarded a $10,500 grant from the Armenian Youth Foundation (AYF) for the school’s capital improvements. The Foundation’s mission is to preserve Armenian heritage by proudly supporting various youth programs. Since 1973, it has awarded over $780,000 in grants to over 20 organizations and Armenian schools. Visit ArmenianYouthFoundation.org to learn more about the Foundation's impact on our community and how you can support it. With this grant award, we completed much-needed capital improvements to the school facilities, including installing new flooring, painting the walls, and purchasing new window blinds. The construction efforts were completed in time for the launch of the new school year in September. We have already seen the positive impact of these improvements in fostering a more inspiring learning environment. We are very appreciative of the Armenian Youth Foundation's support of our mission. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our parents, staff, and volunteers for entrusting us with the privilege of providing a productive and nurturing Armenian educational experience for your children. Thanks to your support, enrollment in our Saturday School, Parent & Me, and post-graduate Armenian studies programs has doubled from prior years. I am committed to working with each of you to ensure we provide an exceptional experience for our children. With gratitude, Yn. SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THIS SUNDAY
THE FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE THESSALONIANS (4.1-12) Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE (13:1-9)
Than he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the gardener, 'See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?' He replied, 'Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it. If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down."
LITURGICAL CALENDAR(From Crossroads: E-Newsletter of the Armenian Prelacy) Saints Thaddeus And Bartholomew This Monday, December 2, the Armenian Church commemorates Saints Thaddeus and Bartholomew, two of the twelve apostles who were the first evangelizers of Armenia, and were martyred there, giving the Armenian Church its apostolic identity and earning them the title, “First Enlighteners of Armenia.” Thaddeus came to Armenia about 43 AD to preach Christianity. He was martyred in southeastern Armenia. His tomb lies in the Armenian monastery of St. Thaddeus (Iran) where a chapel was built in the third century. Bartholomew is believed to have arrived in Armenia about 66 AD. He was martyred in Hadamakert, southeast of Lake Van. An apostle is “someone who is sent”—an emissary or ambassador of the Kingdom of God, sent to announce the gospel of Jesus Christ, and authorized to claim men and women’s allegiance to him. “We are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20). |
