Salt & Light Youth Group Meeting
Last Friday St. Sarkis Salt and Light Youth Group had the second meeting of the fall session. The topic was Jesus of Nazareth: Son of God. As Christians it is very important to know and understand Jesus’ true nature. It was great to hear some students defining who a Christian is: follower of Jesus! So, if we are following Jesus it makes perfect sense to know who he really is.
We discussed the two natures of Jesus in our small groups. Jesus was fully a human and Jesus is God. His humanity is important because he can sympathize with our weaknesses as humans. Jesus understands us. He is the key to membership in God’s family. When He stooped to our level by becoming a man, He made it possible for us to relate to Him and for God to relate to us through Him. He is God himself therefore we can trust in him and depend on him.
We referred to the Bible to look for examples throughout the New Testament to understand both his human and divine natures. We also learned that there were many prophesy in the Old Testament about the coming of Christ, the Savior. We discussed the Holy Trinity emphasizing that Jesus is also called the second person of the Holy Trinity, the other two being the Father and the Holy Spirit. We remembered the different roles we have in our lives but the fact that we are still the same one person just like the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit but one GOD. We also remembered one of the greatest leaders of the Armenian Church St. Nerses Shnorhali and recited one of his prayers where it refers to Jesus as the Wisdom of the Father.
In order to know Jesus we should spend time with God by reading his Word, the Bible and spend time with His family, the Church. Overall it was a very informative and inspiring gathering!
