Saturday School Annual Gala
On Saturday March 2, 2019, the St. Sarkis Suzanne and Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School PTA hosted its 6th Annual Gala at The Inn at New Hyde Park. This year’s theme was Masquerade!
The Gala was a huge success with a record breaking attendance of over 250 people. The cocktail hour started at 7:30pm in the Tuscany Room with different stations that offered a variety of food choices. Violinist Arsen Ketikyan entertained the crowd playing beautiful Armenian music. The open bar was full of familiar faces and smiles as everyone got to enjoy some cocktails together.
Following the cocktail hour, the festivities were moved to the Georgian Ballroom that was decorated with beautiful Masquerade themed centerpieces and masks at every table. For the first time, we had a photo station for picture taking with the school logo as a backdrop. There was a collection of 45 raffle prizes displayed that were generous donations from our community. The large and beautiful hall was very inviting as the attendees made their way to the hall to start the night. The Co-Chairs of the Gala committee, Annette Givelekian and Natalie Meneshian, and Co-Vice Chair of the Gala Committee, and Yn. Annie Terterian who is the Co-Vice Chair of the PTA, took the stage. Annette Givelekian started off by graciously thanking the PTA, Gala Committee, event sponsors and raffle donors, Der Nareg Terterian, Principal Zohrabian and the school staff and everyone in attendance for supporting the very special event. The key points of her passionate speech were that as long as we continue to speak the Armenian language and continue our valued traditions our race will continue to thrive.
Annette Givelekian then introduced the Principal of our Saturday School, Nairy Zohrabian, who made a moving speech about the importance of Armenian Schools and she then introduced our Archbishop Anoushevan Tanielian who had kind words to say. Der Nareg Terterian blessed the table.
Right after the short speeches, we had the honor of introducing Elie Berberian and his band, traveling from Montreal to perform, who started the night of fun! Instantly, the crowd got on the dance floor, and as long as there was music playing, the dance floor was filled to capacity with happy dancers.
It is very difficult to describe the feelings in that room unless you were there. Everyone was having a great time mingling, dancing and truly enjoying the night. You could feel the warm energy in the ballroom. This was all being captured by our photographer Michael Meneshian. The evening continued with a full dance floor the whole night as the guests enjoyed the music of the amazing Elie Berberian band.
Elie ended the night singing Hyortik with the crowd proudly joining him.
The Saturday School and the PTA would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the event.
